Special Needs Support Office

King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM) is committed to providing guidance and support to all individual in the university with disabilities. In light of this, KFUPM established a dedicated office to support people with special needs. This office ensures that the university provides an environment that is appropriate, motivating, and productive for such persons who want to learn, work, and participate in all academic, social and cultural activities within the entire campus. The office coordinates with all departments and deanships in the university to provide all possible ways to enable such persons to contribute and thrive.

    Moreover, the President of the University established a Committee for People with Disabilities. The responsibilities of the committee include:

  • Coordinating with concerned persons to identify all disability cases while assessing the educational and rehabilitation needs of each student.
  • Developing a plan on how students with disabilities can access all the services at the university.
  • Ensuring that the standards contained in the Universal Accessibility Built Environment Guidelines, issued by King Salman Center for Disability Research, are implemented across the university.
  • Modification of the buildings and facilities at the university to suit the needs of students, employees, and visitors living with disabilities.
  • Modifying and adapting all academic and educational services to suit the needs of persons with disabilities as far as reasonably practicable.
  • Preparing organizational and procedural manuals containing details regarding services provided to persons with disabilities within the university.
  • Providing facilities required for easy mobility, independence, and safety of people with disabilities.
  • Submission of periodic reports detailing the committee’s progress to the President of the University.
